The lecture will support the accomplishment of a master thesis / doctoral thesis in the field of accelerator physics or in a field related to the usage of accelerators.
requirements
Basic knowledge of electrodynamics. Some knowledge of geometric optic would be helpfull but is not mandatory.
structure / topics / contents
Linear and non linear beam optics and beam dynamics, linear and recirculating accelerators with normal conducting and super conducting magnets and radio frequency systems, circular accelerators, colliders (e.g. LHC), synchrotron radiation sources (e.g. BESSYII), particle sources, beam diagnostics, new trends e.g. energy recovery linacs.
Occasionally we will visit accelerators of HZB to see the hardware and for demonstrations.
